New Monster Story Roams Sierra
Sonora – Sheriff Miller Sardella dispatched two officers to investigate last year when a monster story stalked out of the mountains east of here. But Sardella is not acting hastily following the latest one. “I’m not doing anything until he (the monster) breaks a law.” Says the colorful lawman, who sports a handlebar mustache and dresses in western attire. “after all,” he adds with tongue in cheeks political realism, “he may be a voter.” The latest revival of the monster story is accredited by the sheriff’s office to a pilot, who for undisclosed reasons choose not to be identified.
Footprints
Deputy Sheriff Albert Miller of Pinecrest said the pilot reported that earlier in the week he saw a “10-foot man with an ape like face” standing in the snow. The pilot’s report did no rouse in Miller the skepticism it might have in others because, according to Miller, only two days earlier he investigated strange footprints in the snow near the dump. He said they were not made by a bear but by “something” with a 12-foot stride. Miller mentioned a bear because they do roam the mountains, do rear up on their hind legs from time to time, are large and often are the explanation given for the monster stories which have recurred several times since the first report a year ago of a huge figure which stalked through the snow and uttered “hideous screams. A later report was turned in last year by fliers who described the monster as being 10 feel tall. An earlier story his season described huge footprints in the snow but there was no sighting of the creature as was reported by the flier this week.
