Report # 2395 (Class B)
Submitted on Wednesday, July 17, 1996. Sighting at night by a group of coon hunters; Screams were also heard in the area (Show Printer-friendly Version)

YEAR: 1938

SEASON: Unknown

STATE: Texas

COUNTY: Ellis County

OBSERVED: As told to me numerous times by my father (now deceased).

When he was a young man of 18, while on a coon hunt, he and three others encountered what I now believe was a bigfoot type of creature. The witnesses were as I said coon hunting , it was at night, and they had set up a camp fire and waited for the coon-dogs to sniff out a coon.

After about a half-hour they noticed that the dogs were not barking or carring on (as coon dogs do when they find a coon) in fact, the dogs did not leave the men sides. They were real close by the fire acting very scared. About that time they noticed a huge white haired figure standing about 30 or so yards from the fire. It was just standing there watching them. Now my father who lived and hunted in the area all his life, never encountered such a creature before. As the rest of the men. They did not stand around to see what the creature would do, they got out of there as fast as they could. They told other people what they saw, and of course no one believed them. Actually one man who lived in the bottoms , as what my father called them, said that he heard very strange "screams" come from the bottoms, most of the time only at night.

This occured around 10:00pm-11:00pm in May of 1938, near the town of Red Oak, Texas.

I remember My father telling me that they had to go through heavy brush and cross Red Oak Creek to get to the area where the encounter happened. Red Oak, I think, is south or southeast of Dallas, I would guess about 25-30 miles out of Dallas.

There were four witnesses -- my father and some friends. I know that this sighting that I am telling you happened a long time ago, but I thought I would tell you about it anyway. My father was a very honest man who was also a bible thumper, and I know his story to be true. I was interested in this subject of bigfoot for a long time. My father told his story to me alot of times. I remember reading about a white bigfoot in the Lake Worth area back in 1968-69, and it sounds like the same creature my father saw. I don't know if it was seen again since then. Maybe you can fill me in on this, if you have anything. I do have another story about my fathers brother who went back up there to see if he and some friends would encounter the creature, and they did have an encounter with it. If you want that story you can let me know and I will tell you it.

I know you people work out of the northwest, but I thought you might like to know, there are some(or were) of these creatures in northeast Texas.

Report # 2396 (Class B)
Submitted by B.L.W. on Monday, June 28, 1999. Tall creature seen by witness (Show Printer-friendly Version)

YEAR: 1964

SEASON: Unknown

STATE: Texas

COUNTY: Ellis County

LOCATION DETAILS: Chambers Creek, near Ennis, Ellis County, Texas

NEAREST TOWN: Ennis

OBSERVED: My father, Kenneth W., and his friend, were fishing at a large creek known as Chambers Creek between the towns of Avalon and Ennis, TX in Ellis County. During this excursion, a large, hulking, hairy creature, approximately eight to ten feet tall appeared before them and roared, bearing its arms. My father and his friend were, of course, frightened nearly hysterically, and proceeded to run, got into my father's truck, and sped ten miles back to Ennis. This so-called "Chambers Creek Monster" was seen by various people following my father's sighting, but since then, it has never been seen again.

OTHER WITNESSES: Fishing. It was very hot that day, and they were very laxidasically lounging until the sighting.

OTHER STORIES: Ellis County is a hotbed for strange, preternatural activity, but a Bigfoot-type creature had only been spotted before in the 30s.

ENVIRONMENT: A creek bottom. Chambers Creek is an extraordinarily large creek that runs through several towns in Ellis, County.

Report # 27768 (Class A)
Submitted by witness on Sunday, May 23, 2010.

Memory shared of a daylight sighting while searching for bottles along a rural road outside Garrett
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(Show Printer-friendly Version)
YEAR: 1972

SEASON: Summer

STATE: Texas

COUNTY: Ellis County

LOCATION DETAILS: Garrett is a small rural town off of Highway 45. Sleepy Hollow is a back road East of Garrett that leads to Ennis a bigger town. The road then was dirt road, only one house nearby. it is developed now.

NEAREST TOWN: In-between Ennis & Garrett

NEAREST ROAD: Sleepy Hollow Road

OBSERVED: My sister and our friend were picking up coke bottles for cash to buy gas for my sister's volkswagon. She was driving while our friend and I walked along side. We heard this extremely loud roar like scream that we had never heard before. We were country kids who grew up in the country and knew all the animals in the area & heard every sound they all make except for this one. It was so loud you could feel it in your stomach. My friend went in the window, I flew in through the sun-roof shouting for my sister to take off. About 300 yards up the hill we looked back & there stood in the middle of the road an extremely tall, brownish-red hair covered creature, standing on two feet like a man. It had walked out of the shade & was standing in the evening sun. You could tell that it had the body of a large man except this reddish brown hair covered it's body. His arms were down to it's side and appeared longer than ours. Area now has been developed. Never seen it since, not that we ever went looking for it. Would love to see it again though.

ALSO NOTICED: Prior to hearing this loud scream like roar, it smelled, we thought something must have gotten run over on the road, but there was nothing ran over.

OTHER WITNESSES: My sister Carolyn was 14 driving her old volkswagon while Cathy 12, our friend and myself, Anita 10 picked up coke bottles to turn in at store for gas money for her volkswagon.

OTHER STORIES: Not many people went down this road, it was a spookey road, heavily treed road, trees were over the road which made it dark shadey all the time.

TIME AND CONDITIONS: Aroung 7:00 p.m. Heavily treed dirt road, lots of shade. Weather was clear.

ENVIRONMENT: There was an old wooden bridge that went over a seasonal creek which ran through this heavily large acerage. So many trees we couldn't ride our horses through it. Low hanging trees, such as hardwood, cedar & mesquite.

Follow-up investigation report by BFRO Investigator Gary Christensen:

I spoke with the witness by phone. In addition to her written report, the witness mentioned that she did not see the creature’s face, but described its shape as being very muscular and estimated it was about 6 1/2 feet tall with 3-4 inch hair covering its body. She did not see it leave the road and did not come back to look for other evidence. She also mentioned that their car had just run out gas and they had switched to a small reserve tank to get it started.

I found the witness to be sincere and very sure of details of the encounter that happened many years ago.

Although this area is now very developed, I have spoken with other witnesses and investigated other reports of encounters near this location. Some of these encounters have occurred more recently. See report #27564.

Man recalls his nighttime sighting through a kitchen window near Ennis
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(Show Printer-friendly Version)
YEAR: 1988

SEASON: Spring

MONTH: April

STATE: Texas

COUNTY: Ellis County

NEAREST TOWN: Ennis Texas

NEAREST ROAD: I-45 and 879 Fm.

OBSERVED: I and my family live on the north side of Ennis on I-45. At the time, I was 13 yrs old. I was at home with my brother's girlfriend. We were there alone. She was giving me a tattoo on my left arm of a cross. We were sitting at the dining room table. I was looking out the dining room window, looking at the gas station behind my house. Then we heard something at the little kitchen window. We thought it was my brother playing a trick on us, so we got up to see if it was him. But we didn't see anything, so we went back to the table. When I went to look out the window again, there was someone standing at the window. I thought it was my brother so I got up and showed my arm to it, thinking it was my brother. Well then it stood up. Then I went to the window thinking my brother was standing on something. Why I say that is because the bottom of the window was 4 and a half feet from the ground and my brother is 5 foot 11 inches tall. So I looked out the window, and it looked at me. I was about 6 inches from its face. I saw its eyes then.

ALSO NOTICED: Well, when I saw its eyes, they were too far away from each other, like an ape, and its shoulders were wider than the window. I backed up from the window and said to my brothers girlfriend that's not Donald. It looks like a big ape. She told me to stand still and it will go away. Well we stood there for about 2 or 3 mins. And then it turned to the east and walked away. It stood and passed 3/4 of the window. It had a point to its head and realy hairy. Then 30 mins. later when my brother showed up, we told him what happened. At first he didnt believe us until he found some footprints behind the house. I was 13 at the time. Now, I'm 35yrs. old . And we didn't know who to call back then. That's why I'm telling you now.

OTHER WITNESSES: Me and my brothers girlfriend

TIME AND CONDITIONS: 10:30 pm, clear skies. The light was on in the dining room and the lights from the gas station were only 25 to 30 yards away. The window was 36 inches wide and 4 ft. tall.

Follow-up investigation report by BFRO Investigator Gary Christensen:

The witness worked with artist Sybilla Irwin to recreate the face he saw that night.
