tr31 * Sept. 7, '93, from Kurt of MD. A friend and coworker of mine share a hobby, monitoring police calls with a scanner. On march 28, 1991, Anne Arundel county (between Prince George County and Chesapeake Bay, MD), at about 9:00 PM, he was monitoring the county frequency and heard the police responding to a call by a very upset man who claimed he had been accosted by a "7-8 foot tall hairy thing" in the woods. The police were treating it seriously, as the man was very distraught. It is possible that one of the responding officers caught a glimpse of something. Ann Arundel county has a lot of wooded area and several state parks and Wildlife Refuges. It is still possible to hunt deer in the county. (Rip Lytle met a county officer that had talked to the policeman, and confirmed that he had actually seen a BF, Rip says, but there were no details.)

(Thanks Randy) Tales of creatures are tall on interest, short on details Animal sighting lures media to Arundel Hills, By Laura Barnhardt, Sun Staff The sighting of a 12-foot-tall, black, mystery creature seen lurking in the dark of night near the Arundel Hills construction site sparked a media frenzy yesterday in the light of day. The report of the "strange sighting" was checked by police early Monday morning and quickly became a joke about the sighting of an imaginary Loch Ness Monster from the Severn River. State wildlife officials were called in to search the area yesterday, where the large, unidentified beast that walked upright had scared several construction workers. The workers said they were awakened just past midnight Monday while napping in a van at the mall site in Hanover. Yesterday, reporters from television shows questioned police and Department of Natural Resources officials as they gathered in the area. County workers laughed about the tourism possibilities for the county's Sasquatch. But County Executive Janet S. Owens' spokesman remained serious, expressing Owens' concern that Arundel Hills mall open Nov. 16. The frightened workers said the "thing" ran past them so fast they weren't sure what it was. After fleeing to a nearby fast-food restaurant, they called police, who dispatched an off-duty officer working security at the site. He had trouble persuading the men to return to where they say they first spotted the animal. Later, when the officer and the workers caught another glimpse of the creature, the workers ran away again. Hours later, the officer spotted a large animal in the dark with his floodlight , but it was unclear whether it was the same beast spotted earlier by the workers. DNR sent a regional wildlife biologist to the construction site, but the search for the animal or its prints came up empty, said Susan O'Brien, a department spokeswoman. "It was most likely the bear spotted on [Route] 295 not two or three miles from that site," O'Brien said. The female bear, which had been with a small cub killed by a car on the road, would have weighed at most about 300 pounds and would be about 5 feet tall if it stood upright, she said. She said the animal might have looked much larger - distorted by the witnesses' fear and horror and by poor lighting. That is, if the bear was the same animal that terrified the construction workers. The officer reported finding a 15- to 20-inch-long print and seeing a large animal near a pond on the construction site about 3 a.m. Although the print would have been too large to be from a bear - even a large one - O'Brien said it was possible that the animal had slid in the dirt, creating an elongated print. Bears have been sighted by residents in the Baltimore area recently, she said. If confronted by a bear, residents should make their presence known by standing straight, talking and then backing away slowly in a nonconfrontational manner, said O'Brien. Golden Retriever dog became very anxious and aggressive, growled and clung to witness leg with tail tucked down. Investigator Dave B. found the leg of a dead deer directly in the hikers path. A week later on the path there was another footprint that was photographed. An eerie scream was heard in the distance.

TR 92 OCT 1999 * This report, filed in TR#90, is apparently a hoax. Bill wrote and denied knowing about it. Report from kurtz_saclive@email.msn.com (Bill Wells) At Gunpowder Falls State Park, MD, July 1999. Large 18 in track found on muddy riverside. Four toes showing, width about 6 in. A week later on the path there was another footprint that was photographed, An eerie scream was heard in the distance, Last month's TR report at Gunpowder. MD. Riplytt (Rip Lyttle). Ray. I'd like to submit a follow-up on the report in last month's Track Record about footprints found in Gunpowder Falls State Park, Harford County/Baltimore County in July 1999. The report appears to be questionable unless you spoke directly to the person who submitted report. The lister of the report was kurtz_saclive@email.msn.com (BiII Wells). Upon contacting Mr. Wells by email. he emailed me back stating "he filed no such report, doesn't know about the Track Record" (editor...1 had the same reply from Bill). He lives in California. and once subscribed to an Internet Bigfoot forum, and he surmised that someone may have used his email handle, and even mentioned (deleted...you know who don't you?) by name. The area has been active in BF reports as late as the 80's and Gunpowder forest is excellent bottom land jungle forest. We hiked a 4 mile stretch of it Saturday and it was remindful of out west with high hills and quarries above the 20' wide river. And I've hiked it extensively before in '96 & '97, On both sides of the trail which is bisected by Rt. 1 South. This weekend I heard tree knocking twice in a minute (each time with 7? like-sounding straight knocks (almost woodpecker but heftier) when I "paused and refreshed" for minutes on banks of little Gunpowder just west of Fallston. MD. Please put this in your next Track Record that a member of the WBS has followed up. You should know nothing gets by me here in MD. Rip Lyttle

TR 56 APR 96 * TR 56 APR 96 April 16, 1996. (Hair sample included with letter...sample to Dr. Fahrenbach and to Dr. Kojo) ...1 have made an effort to not embellish or exaggerate. My father told me about gorilla hunts that he went on near Fredericktown, MO, in the mid 1940's, while my father was dating my mother. My grandfather owned a large wooded property about five miles southwest of town. A family of tall hairy ape-people were said to live on his land. My aunt was a young girl then. She disappeared for a couple of days. They found her wandering in the woods a couple of days later. She had gray streaks in her hair and said she had been carried off by an ape-man. She is now a nun in (deleted).

* Rip Lyttle called 7/3. He had heard of a recent report from northern Maryland from Bob Chance, and gone out to investigate himself. About 20 miles NE of Belair, 8/10 mile off route 136, June 30th, about 9:30 PM, Scott dropped off his girlfriend. They heard noises that they thought was a deer, then six terrifying cries, and then thought it was a cougar or bobcat. There is a huge quarry nearby that has a lake and a beaver pond. Rip talked to Scott on James Run and he said his dogs had become very agitated, and he had heard strange sounds moving around and breaking sticks and screaming on occasion in the forest. His sister-in-law and her kids had something pacing them in the woods about a mile away from his house (July 1). When they stopped, it stopped, when they moved, it moved. They rushed home. A note from Bob Chance, 7/18, Susquehannock Environmental Center, Inc., PO Box 287, Bel Air, MD 2104) "Think the James Run incident was probably a bobcat or cougar. Rip investigated it, but the analysis was incomplete. Have some recent interesting situations by fisherman at Broad Creek boat dock but again believe it to be cougar or bobcat." TR 55 MAR 96 Rip Berry's book, Bigfoot 0n The East Coast, 1993, lists some 232 Bigfoot reports from Maryland, a lot for such a tiny state (Rick Berry, PO Box 106, Stuarts Draft, VA 24477). The oldest Hartford County record was 1914, near Churchville, at Glenville road and Rt. 155, a young boy saw a tall, hairy, man-like creature sitting on a log. recent, in 1988, when a huge monkey-like creature was seen on Kalmia Road near Forge Hill.
