Possible whoops heard while stargazing near Van Buren
(Show Printer-friendly Version)
YEAR: 2015

SEASON: Fall

MONTH: October

DATE: 10/11/15

STATE: Missouri

COUNTY: Reynolds County

LOCATION DETAILS: From U.S. Highway 60 near Van Buren Missouri Go north on 21 highway cross into Reynolds county the first county road on the right go to the end of the road and it will fork stay to the right through the sawmill you can see the fire tower from highway 21

NEAREST TOWN: Van Buren

NEAREST ROAD: State highway 21

OBSERVED: On 10-11-2015 at approximately 10 pm I was driving around and thought I would stargaze at the old conservation fire tower on 21 highway near the old 21 drive-in. I parked my truck by the picnic table. I turned off my truck and got out looking at the stars. It was just a moment and I noticed a whooping call it sounded like a monkey at the zoo. I listened for a good 20 minutes the call was the same a whoop whoop then a pause for a short time then another whoop whoop. It sounded like it was coming from the heavily wooded valley below me.

ALSO NOTICED: I didnt see anything only heard the whoops

OTHER WITNESSES: Just me

TIME AND CONDITIONS: Clear night approximately 10 pm

ENVIRONMENT: Near sawmill, conservation fire tower with picnic area secluded heavily wooded

Follow-up investigation report by BFRO Investigator Brian R. Woods:

I spoke with the witness during a telephone interview, and we went over the details of this night. After arriving at the fire tower, the witness decided to exit his vehicle for a better view of the stars and the night sky. He describes the area as having a valley down below, enabling a great view in that direction. The witness states that from east of the tower, estimated 150-200 yards away, he heard a strong, high pitched "whoop....whoop" sound. He mentioned during the call more than once that he was sure it was an animal sound that he had never heard before, except for maybe a primate at a zoo. He also said that he got the impression that the animal was "young sounding" due to it's vocal qualities being very smooth and almost youthful in nature.

The sounds repeated in an identical pattern, with a long pause in between, several times. This went on for twenty minutes. The witness determined that the animal was gradually moving from one side of the valley to the other, but not necessarily farther away. Each set of "whoops" came from a slightly different location, but still maintaining at the distance of around 150 yards. After listening intently for a while, the witness returned to his vehicle, where he spent several more minutes before leaving.

The witness has asked that his occupation not be included in the report, but it apparently affords him significant time during overnight hours in this area, and he feels quite familiar with more run of the mill animal sounds. This, mixed with his lifelong hunting and outdoor experiences, leads him to be confident that the sounds he heard where unlike any others he had ever experienced.

Night driver snaps photo of bipedal animal on remote gravel road near Annapolis
(Show Printer-friendly Version)
YEAR: 2014

SEASON: Summer

MONTH: July

DATE: 16

STATE: Missouri

COUNTY: Reynolds County

LOCATION DETAILS: County road (removed for privacy)

NEAREST TOWN: Annapolis

NEAREST ROAD: K highway

OBSERVED: I was on my way home from town between 10:30 and 11:00 pm. As I was coming around the gravel road I received a message on my phone. As I opened my phone to check my message I seen a creature walking upright across the road. It stood about 6 to 6 and a half ft tall. I quickly started backing out of my messages trying to access my camera on my phone. At the time I first seen it, I was about 50 yards from it. By time I came to a stop I was within 25 to 30 yards from the creature. When I first seen it, the creature was in the middle of the road in the process of walking straight across the road. It wasn't In a hurry, it calmly walked across the road and stopped about 5 ft. off the road still in sight. I was able to take a picture of it before it walked off into the woods. From the moment I seen it, it never took its eyes off me. I tried to switch my camera over to video but it was too late. It was gone. I was fortunate enough to take the picture I got before it was gone. That is definitely a night I will never forget.

OTHER WITNESSES: No

OTHER STORIES: Around 2 weeks after, my mother and father seen the creature cross the road about 1/4 mile from my sighting.

TIME AND CONDITIONS: 10:49 pm. The sky was clear. Calm night.

ENVIRONMENT: Gravel road. Forest on both sides. Very Secluded.

Follow-up investigation report by BFRO Investigator Brian R. Woods:

The witness originally had sent an email to the BFRO, and had requested that an investigator contact him, concerning an experience he had 2 years ago. In his initial email, he also mentioned that he had taken a photo, and wanted to bring it to the BFRO's attention. The witness and I communicated via email, at which time he also sent the photo. After speaking with the witness on the phone, he agreed to submit a report using our online submission page. The witness lives in Reynolds County, Missouri, near the towns of Ellington and Annapolis. The exact location of the report will not be published to protect privacy, but the general area is provided.

During the phone call, the witness was able to give me a full account of his experience, and provide a significant amount of detail. On the night of July 16, 2014, the witness was returning home, traveling alone. Part of his usual route includes several miles along a gravel road that is remote, heavily wooded, and without fencing on either side. The witness had decreased his driving speed to approximately 10 MPH, in order to look at a text message on his phone. When he glanced up at the road, about 50 yards ahead of him, was an upright, bipedal animal crossing the road. Slowing his vehicle speed even more, he continued his approach, and stopped within 20-25 yards of the animal. The animal never accelerated its pace or stride, and never took its eyes off of the witness and his truck. During this slowing-down and stopping period, the witness was able to open the camera application on his phone, and capture one photo of the animal before it was concealed by darkness and vegetation in the ditch it was crossing the road toward.

The witness was able to provide additional physical features of the creature. "The arms were long. Definitely at knee level. Arms were covered in dark hair all the way to the hands. Legs were covered with patchy dark hair as well. Most of the feet was missing hair. I did see it blink. My solid estimate on height would be between 6 foot to 6 and a half feet tall." Apparently, the creature seemed rather "mangy", with patches of hair missing on the buttocks, elbows, and other areas. The witness is extremely confident that this was not a human, due to the abnormal body proportions, visible hair, and absence of clothing. The witness is quoted as saying, "I am 100 percent positive that this was not somebody". Meaning, that the appearance and movements were distinctive enough that it was easy to discern that it was not a human.

The witness was kind enough to share his photo with the BFRO. The date the photo was taken was July 16, 2014, at 10:49 PM. During our conversation, the witness was very open and accepting of my attempts to come up with rational explanations for his photo. What about neighbors, out for a walk? A mischievous teen in a hoodie? A friend playing a trick? The witness replied that his only two neighbors were not close to this area. There were no other vehicles parked alongside the road. It wasn't a teen or prankster, because the face, arms, and overall body were not covered with any discernible clothing. The witness observed hair and skin. The witness unfortunately did not see genitalia, protruding breasts, or anything indicative of gender. Below, you will see a slideshow created with the original photo, a map of the general area, a few zoomed portions of the original photo, and daytime photos of the sighting location.

The witness also reported that about two weeks after his sighting, his parents were traveling on the same road, also after dark. They were approximately a quarter of a mile from the sighting location, and also observed an upright creature cross the road in front of their vehicle. I am attempting to speak with his parents, and will document any relevant information that they might provide. I'm interested in hearing their account, and physical description of what they saw.

I found the witness to be consistent with his details, very open to discussing the incident, but still would like to retain a good measure of privacy. It's quite common for witnesses to "sit" on their photos or experiences until they are either comfortable talking about it, or make the decision to bring their evidence to someone's attention. I find the photo very compelling, and the witness and I discussed how lucky he was to have his phone in his hand when he saw the animal crossing the road. Many road crossing witnesses report that the experience can happen so fast, that they simply have no chance to take a photo. Some opt not to or can't because they are driving, or have already passed up the area by quite a distance by the time it registers what they have just seen. Has the witness captured a sasquatch in his photo? I think most viewers would agree that the photo is definitely NOT the typical "blobsquatch" photo, where shadows, tree stumps, or over-zoomed pixels on a blurry photo are presented as evidence. It wouldn't be prudent to claim this is ABSOLUTE photo evidence of a sasquatch, but given the area's history of bigfoot activity and other data collected from that area of the state, it just might be.

Hunter in his stand makes eye contact one afternoon in Ellington
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(Show Printer-friendly Version)
YEAR: 2016

SEASON: Fall

MONTH: October

DATE: 8

STATE: Missouri

COUNTY: Reynolds County

LOCATION DETAILS: Please do not let this info out because of folks who want to harm these creatures.

NEAREST TOWN: Ellington

OBSERVED: I have to apologize about not posting my sighting sooner simply because most folks just laugh and look at you as a fruit cake or something. However, this makes my second sighting of a Big Foot. My son and I was bow hunting in Reynolds county Mo, and I decided to hunt a pond where deer was using it consistently. To make a long story short, I got settled in a tree behind the pond where I could watch a hollower leading up to the pond and a log road running past the pond as well. So around 5 pm I noticed how quiet the woods became. The squirrels I had been watching disappeared, the birds became silent, so I started to become concerned of human activity. So I began to search the woods to see if someone was in the area when this large black figure appeared walking down the other side of this hollower I had set up to watch. At first I thought this was a man. But as it kept walking I noticed how massive it was, and all of a sudden it stopped and took two steps backwards and turned and looked straight at me. It was then I realized that this is not a man but a Big Foot. As this creature looked at me, I could clearly see its eyes and nose. I could see flesh around its eyes and cheeks and also see hair covering its face as well. It stood there looking at me for I guess a good fifteen or twenty seconds, then turned and walked on down the ridge and disappeared into the woods. Needless to say, I was scared out of my mind and refused to climb down the tree, but it was getting dark and I knew I had to meet my son back out on the main road. Finally I got up the nerve and came down. So I walked over to where I saw it and looked back to the tree I was in, and then it became clear that what I had seen could not have been a man, because he would not have been tall enough to have been seen over the underbrush. This creature was at least seven and a half or eight foot tall. When I met up with my son I asked him if he met or passed anybody or vehicles on his way to pick me up, and he said no then I told him what I saw.

OTHER WITNESSES: No

OTHER STORIES: Yes. My uncle, son and I saw a Big Foot in 2015. Around 2007 or 2008 a hunter told me and my uncle he saw a creature eating a deer gut pile there.

TIME AND CONDITIONS: It was late October. Around 5 pm clear skies, calm winds and still plenty of sunlight to be able to see a good 2 to 3 hundred yards through the woods.

ENVIRONMENT: A lot of pine, a pond and probably 2 to 3 hundred yards on pass the pond there is a clear cut a good bedding area for deer. Off of county road 12 there are a bunch of food plots for the deer

Follow-up investigation report by BFRO Investigator Carter Buschardt:

I spoke with Tommy at length. I was the investigator on his original Report #46826 a few years back. The encounter was as he described, and I did get some further information from him. It is as follows: He was in his portable tree stand, about 30 ft. up a rather large sturdy tree. The tree overlooked a trail (hollow) that meandered through another large stand of trees, and the trail (hollow) dumps out into a clearing. As mentioned, he was focused on 2 squirrels playing when he heard a "rustling, shuffling" coming down the trail. Distance from the tree he was in, to the spot of seeing the creature was about 75 yards. The creature was blending in to the shadows from the trees, and that is where he came up with the coloring of a very dark brown or "blackish".

He saw the massive creature walking down the trail, and as soon as it hit the clearing, it stopped dead in its tracks and looked straight up at him. It did not stop and look around in any other direction, or at any other animals or objects. Straight at him, as though he knew he was there the entire time. This totally unnerved him, and he froze. He is quite certain he was frozen already, and the creature was "drilling a hole right through him" with his stare. He described the creature as:

"A flat nose, but not totally flat. Flesh was a dark tan, like a white person with a very deep tan. Huge fat lips. Eyes were squinted and huge. There was hair on and around the face but it was sparse in that area. It was slightly bent over when it was looking up at me". When it was finished with the stare down, it " stood up straight as can be, seemed to take a deep breath, and squared up its shoulders, and walked on down the trail it was on in the first place". The creature went on its way like the situation never happened. Didn't look back, make any sound, nothing. Not concerned about the witness at all. As he mentioned, when he DID finally climb down out of the tree, he went over to where the creature was standing. He determined from the height of the underbrush and low hanging branches, that it was indeed NOT a human. It was what he thought in the first place, a Sasquatch. It was not, and could not have been a man.

I have camped and investigated this area, and it is quite active.
The witness is as honest and as down to earth as just about anyone I have met, inside AND outside the scope of this subject matter.
