The Shunka Warak'in is said to be a powerful, four-legged canine which looks like a cross between a wolf and a hyena and is said to be vicious and predatory. In fact, the name "Shunka Warak'in" given by the Loway Indians roughly translates to "Carries Off Dogs". This canine is said to roam the prairies and mountains of the Midwest, most notably Montana. Not much is known about this creature's habits, but the Native Americans who settled in the Montana region know it to be a very real animal. The first major sighting of this animal happened in the 1880's by the Hutchins family who settled in the area. Israel Hutchins was plagued by this creature, who made several visits to his farm to steal away with his geese. However, the animal was finally shot by Israel and donated to a grocery store/museum in Idaho where it was sent to a taxidermist to be mounted. The creature, named "Ringdocus" was then displayed at the store in Henry Lake, Idaho until it finally made its way to the Museum of Natural History in Pocatello. Although the stuffed animal fits the description of the Shunka Warak'in, it looks like neither a wolf, hyena or any known dog hybrid.
