Valley News and Green Sheet
Thursday July 1, 1976
The Search for the legendary Bigfoot monster will be the focus of the Caravan Safari sponsored by the East Valley YMCA for boys and girls, sixth to eighth graders, from Wednesday, July 7 to July 13 to the High Sierras, said Rich Brumagin. Young people will pack up equipment and supplies and travel in a wood covered, specially designed “caravan” truck and head out to the mountains.
The first four days, spent at the YMCA base camp, located outside the Mammoth City, will be alive with activity as they search for the Bigfoot monster continues, he said. Novice campers will try their skills at fishing in Mammoth, Lava Glass Flows, Mono Craters, earthquake fault and the fish hatchery. A “rugged” five-mile overnight trip to Valentine Lake is planned and a chance to relax and swim in Hot Creek Hole and participate in conducted horseback rides at Mammoth Stables are also scheduled.
Finally, the blistered, sunburned weary travelers will journey to Toiumme Meadow where they will visit Bodie Ghost Town and in their final search for the Bigfoot they will spend one day in Yosemite National Park. Serving as director will be Rich American. For more information call the YMCA
