‘Mystery Beast’ Terrorizes Town
‘Monster Picks up Sport Car
Louisiana, Mo, (UPI) – Twenty-five men combed the wooded hills near this Mississippi River town Wednesday looking for a six-to-12-foot black-haired beast that frightens young girls, picks up foreign cars and smells awful. There was no trace of the “thing” which walks erect and has the town’s 7,000 residents worried.
Reports of the Pike County monster came early last week. The first sighting was reported last Wednesday by 15-year old Doris Harrison, who lives in the wooded area on the outskirts of Louisiana about 60 miles northwest of St. Louis. Miss Harrison told police she looked out the bathroom window of the house and saw a tall, hairy creature peering back at her from behind a tree in the back yard. The Harrison family has abandoned its home and is living in town until the monster is caught, said Shelby Ward, chief of the Louisiana police department.
Ward said another resident saw the monster “crossing the highway with a sheep or a dog in its mouth.” Two young boys hiking on the hill early Tuesday told authorities they saw the thing standing in the woods and said it resembled a bear. The boys ran when it growled at them.
Another man said the thing lifted up the back end of his foreign care. Whatever the monster may be, one thing is certain – it hasn’t bathed recently. The reports all agree that the thing can be detected by its foul odor before it is seen.
